If you’d like all your gadgets to be running pure Linux, then Pine64 has you covered. Not only is it set to launch a Linux tablet and new laptop this year, but we’re also getting a smartphone, IP camera, and updated single board computers.
Pine64, the company that gave us the $89 Pinebook Linux laptop, is branching out and is set to launch a Linux tablet this year for just $79. That’s as well as a new Linux laptop, smartphone, camera, single board computers, and retro gaming kit.
News of the tablet was revealed ahead of the FOSDEM 2019 open source conference where Pine64 will have a stand and prototypes of its new devices will be on display. One of those devices will be the PineTab, a 10-inch tablet with a choice of Linux and BSD distributions to run.
Inside the PineTab you’ll find an Allwinner A64 SoC, which consists of a Cortex-A53 quad-core processor and Mali-400 MP2 GPU. There’s 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 16GB of eMMC storage, a 2MP front camera and 5MP rear camera, and the 10-inch LCD touchscreen is 720p. Although not that powerful, at $79 it’s a bargain if you want an open tablet. For an extra $20 it’s possible to get one with a magnetically-attached keyboard that turns the tablet into a Linux laptop.
Alongside the PineTab, Pine64 is working on a PineBook Pro laptop featuring a 14-inch 1080p IPS display, up to 128GB of eMMC storage, 4GB of DDR4 RAM, the option of adding an M.2 NVMe SSD, and all the usual ports. It will run a Rockchip RK3399 SoC consisting of a dual-core ARM Cortex-A72 MPCore processor and Quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 MPCore processor. The cost? A mere $199.
Other Pine64 devices to look out for this year include a $149 Linux smartphone of unspecified screen size, a $20 open source IP camera, and a Model B version of the Pine H64 single board computer with 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB RAM options for between $24.95 and $44.95. There’s also set to be a range of retro-gaming add-ons by Chinese manufacturer Roshambo that work with Pine64 hardware, and a third revision of Pine64’s most popular single board computer the Rock64.
FOSDEM 2019 kicks off on Feb. 2 in Brussels with Pine64 at stand eight in the AW building.
